Reforestation - an investment in the future

Every forest owner is obliged to ensure reforestation within five years after logging - this is stipulated in the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia (Article 29 of the Forest Law).

The main objective of reforestation is to ensure that areas that have been felled are restored with a high-quality forest stand ready for the challenges of the futurethat meet both ecological and economic requirements. This is not just a formal activity - it is the essence of sustainable forestry.

Soil preparation

Soil preparation is the first step in reforestation. It involves preparing the soil, creating furrows or mounds for planting to ensure favourable growing conditions for the seedlings and to encourage them to establish.

Planting

Planting is the process of creating a new forest by planting quality seedlings from certified nurseries, choosing the right species and technology for the specific growing conditions, ensuring the best possible forest regeneration and sustainability.

Agronomic care

Agronomic care is carried out to reduce competition from weeds and grasses, improve the growing conditions of the seedlings and ensure their uniform development. This work is carried out several times in the first years after planting.

Young plant care

Coppicing is essential to improve the quality of the stand. During maintenance, unwanted trees and shrubs are thinned out, encouraging the growth of the most valuable tree species and shaping the future forest.

Protecting young stands against beast damage

Protecting young plantations protects them from animal damage and other risks. Protectants such as Cervacol are applied to the seedlings in autumn to prevent damage by ungulates.
